TUSTIN HIRES NEW POLICE CHIEF
TUSTIN, Calif. – Scott M. Jordan begins 2005 in his new role as Police Chief of Tustin on January 3.
“Chief Jordan comes to us as an excellent fit for Tustin. His qualifications and the experience he acquired from his 27 years policing in Garden Grove will serve our city well, ” said Mayor Lou Bone.
“It’s an honor to be selected as Tustin’s new Police Chief. I hope to blend my philosophies and strategies with those that have been successful here for quite some time,” said Chief Scott M. Jordan. “I am an advocate for community policing, and believe that partnering with residents and business owners not only improves the quality of life and creates a feeling of safety and security, but builds public trust.”
Jordan has worked for the Garden Grove Police Department in positions of increasing responsibility for the past 27 years. His most recent position was Deputy Chief of Police. In this position, he worked directly with the chief in overseeing the staff of 233 and maintaining a budget of $34 million.
Previously, Jordan served as Police Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant and Officer. Under Jordan’s leadership, the City of Garden Grove implemented a new community policing program, reorganized the School Resource Officer Program, acquired numerous crime prevention grants, built a Juvenile Justice Center, and developed a three-year strategic plan.
Of note, under Jordan’s leadership, the department implemented a new Workforce Diversity Action Plan that has been distributed nationally by the United States Department of Justice. After this plan was put in place, Garden Grove moved from having 15% minority police officers to its current 34%.
Since earning his Bachelor’s of Arts in Criminal Justice and Master’s of Public Administration from California State University at Fullerton, Jordan has completed training seminars from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, California Polytechnic University at Pomona, and the University of Southern California. Jordan also holds POST Advanced, Supervisory, and Management Certificates.
Jordan has been active in the community, serving on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove and the Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center and he is a member of the Kiwanis Club and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
There will be a formal reception welcoming Chief Scott Jordan preceding the council meeting on January 18.
